Sustainability is the hallmark of Rimi Nayak’s designs, whether she is celebrating typefaces or creating nature-inspired clothing
What entrepreneurial challenges have you faced so far?
RN: I have faced a lot of challenges in the last 12 years. Being more creatively inclined and coming from an academic family background, it was a challenge to understand the commercial aspect of the business. Since I was the first person in my family doing business I didn’t have anyone to advise me. I followed a trial and error method. It was definitely very challenging to keep the ambition alive and fight through the days when funds were low and expenses were high.
How do you design a collection?
RN: We generally start with a theme/concept for our collection every season. Then we do extensive research/study on the forecast and the concept that we choose to work upon. It is then followed by various prints and surface development swatches. Then we decide on the silhouettes and create the range. While designing, we always keep the wearability factor in mind and try to create a range that looks stylish without compromising on the comfort factor.
How does your brand assist artisanal clusters? How do you approach quality control?
RN: I am associated with various artisan based organizations and I regularly give them training and help them to create contemporary designs. With respect to quality control, we do a thorough quality check of each and every individual piece before we send it for delivery.
