Sreesha Shetty’s roots are South Indian but she is a Goan at heart and the creations reflect both influences
How did Lune come about?
SS: Lune is an extension of my upbringing and interests. I founded Lune in 2012 when, as an early 20-something, I chanced upon a jewelry-making toolkit in Custard Factory, the creative quarter of Birmingham where I lived at the time. From selling handmade jewelry out of a box to friends, to setting up a shop on Etsy to Lune as we know it today, it has come a long way.
What is your design philosophy?
SS: Lune has always stood for jewelry that’s extremely wearable. Even our most modern and signature pieces will blend into a client’s persona and lifestyle. We’re an Indian home-grown brand and use many Indian jewelry techniques to craft modern pieces. It’s about breaking traditional codes to make something that truly represents the modern Indian woman.
How do you incorporate sustainability in your designs?
SS: We make everything in small batches, and also try to give work to artisan clusters that are known for certain skills. We create jobs for these clusters so the art form doesn’t die out. We identify manufacturers, social enterprises or artisans who are skilled in a particular technique while also keeping in mind fair wages, and skill development, and make sure they get continuous work with each collection.
