When Aditi & Divam Jain plunged into the already crowded space of women’s apparel, they were more intent on the journey than the destination
Introduce us to the Fabnest brand philosophy.
A&D: It’s pretty clear cut and simple. We work very hard to create comfortable all-occasion wear, silhouettes for everyone at affordable price points. We have reviewed Indian female body specs in detail along with various fits that other brands offer to come up with masterpieces. Our primary focus is to develop fusion/modern silhouettes using various crafts and fabrics. For example, we have developed kaftans, capes and co-ord sets using hand woven ikat. We also make 10 sizes, from XS to 6XL.
How does fashion define our daily wardrobe choices?
A&D: Fashion and style are means of representing and voicing one’s character and personality. The silhouettes, the colors, the prints you wear, aka the choices you make, portray who you are. Even a simple LBD (little black dress) has the power to make a strong statement. It’s important to keep abreast with fashion but it is also important to understand our body types and dress accordingly. There has to be a balance between the two.
Both of you worked in the fashion industry for over a decade. Share your key takeaways from that experience.
A&D: No college can prepare you for the real world. People management is something you only learn with time –it’s important to know how to get your work done. In each company or workplace, ways of working were different, and to be able to adapt to them and excel was the key.
Our work experience before we started Fabnest was in design, product development, sourcing, manufacturing, and supply chain. Since we spent a lot of time with buying houses and liaison offices, we learnt to view quality, detailing, and pricing as most important. Our job was to ensure best quality in the best possible sourcing price.
