Eco-Chic and Spacious: COSMOS Tote Bag Awarded India’s Best Design Project 2023

Overcoming Challenges with Creativity

Working with plastic waste and scrap fabric presents significant challenges, primarily in the collection of these materials. Additionally, the handmade production process and the need for upskilling and training artisans add layers of complexity. To address these challenges, strategic partnerships were formed with biscuit and chips manufacturers to source post-production waste plastics. These materials are then transported to workshops where artisans process them. The women involved in this project are taught various weaving and crochet techniques, empowering them with new skills.

Transforming Waste into Opportunity

By rethinking and repurposing pre- and post-consumer waste, 8finity not only breathes new life into discarded materials but also interweaves opportunity, skill development, job creation, conservation, and environmental protection. Over 90 women, including those from the West Bengal Foundation of Deaf Women, have been empowered through this initiative. Since its inception, the project has upcycled over 300 kilograms of fabric waste and approximately 200 kilograms of plastic waste. A portion of the proceeds is dedicated to community welfare projects.
