The Kanpur & Agra metro design was unveiled in September 2021 by the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath. The metro trains are 100% indigenously manufactured at the Alstom facility in Savli, Gujarat.
Merging Heritage with Innovation
When Alstom Transport was awarded the project, the primary challenge lay in creating a design that would remain timeless and meet global standards for decades to come, as stipulated by the customer. Drawing inspiration from Uttar Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage, Alstom Transport combined this with cutting-edge design principles to craft a visually appealing fleet for the Kanpur and Agra metros. The aerodynamically modular design not only enhances aesthetics but also promises a range of benefits including enhanced safety, security, environmental sustainability, and an exceptional passenger experience.
Redefining Commutes
The introduction of these new metro trains will directly benefit approximately 5 million citizens across Kanpur and Agra. Beyond mere transit improvements, the project is poised to significantly boost the socio-economic development of the region. By reducing congestion and pollution, the metros will contribute to a cleaner and more efficient urban environment in both cities.
Setting New Standards
Each metro train features stainless-steel car bodies equipped with state-of-the-art amenities. These include air-conditioned cars with automated sliding doors, comfortable seating arrangements, ample standing spaces, and designated areas catering to passengers with special needs, including those using wheelchairs. Modern passenger information systems ensure a seamless travel experience, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity. The trains are outfitted with FLEXX metro bogies and the MITRAC propulsion system, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing operational costs. These innovations underscore Alstom’s commitment to meeting stringent environmental standards while accommodating up to 960 passengers in a three-car configuration.
