Celebrating Indian Craftsmanship: MuseVERSE Wins India’s Best Design Project Award 2023

The inspiration for this furniture collection came from MuseTRIBE, MuseMART’s version of Channapatna toys that embody a blend of masterful craftsmanship and contemporary design elements. MuseVERSE features individualistic design languages that are influenced by both form and texture. The result is a diverse and captivating collection of furniture that seamlessly merges traditional craftsmanship with modern design.

Navigating the Complexities of Design and Construction

Designing the details for this furniture range posed unique challenges, particularly in construction and material implementation. For instance, creating the metal console’s extruded cutout shape with etched banding while maintaining the desired texture, required extensive experimentation. Additionally, achieving the table’s balance presented its own set of difficulties. The team had to get creative to overcome these challenges. One such solution was the unexpected integration of specific details, like the ball leg for the console ‘tintin,’ which significantly enhanced the table’s stability. This approach not only solved the balance issue but also added a unique design element to the piece.

Combining Playfulness With Versatility

This project highlights the richness of Indian craftsmanship and the innovative use of multiple materials and techniques. This furniture range combines playfulness with versatility, making it adaptable to any interior setting. Each product in the MuseVERSE collection boasts a unique style, contributing to a cohesive yet distinctive collection that reflects elements of the MuseTRIBE. The materials for this range were meticulously selected for their durability, ensuring longevity. The joineries and construction methods reinforce this durability, ensuring that the furniture withstands the test of time.

Collaborating for Diversity

Collaboration was the key to successfully execute this range. Artists, craftsmen, and designers from various fields, including textiles, metal art, Channapatna, miniature model making, and glass, were brought together to expand the material range and benefit from their expertise. This collaborative effort resulted in a rich and diverse collection.

As an extension to the furniture range, four exclusive art cloches were created, showcasing the beauty of Channapatna toys in their original wood and grains. Each art cloche features a colourful scenario accompanied by a unique storyline, creating a mesmerising display that captures the imagination.
