A legacy continues

Leveraging the success of his family’s export business, Naman Jain is focusing on creating a retail presence in India

How does your brand support the artisanal community in India?

NJ: We employ artisans and weavers to create the rugs. By focusing on increasing our sales, we ensure continuous employment to the existing weavers and are able to employ the next generation. We believe that if we continue to support our senior artisans and weavers, the third generation will follow their path. So, when they are ready to work, we provide them with initial training and get them acquainted with different construction techniques. We also provide our artisans health benefits and other saving schemes, and offer other financial support through donations within the factory premises.

How did your formal education help take your plans forward?

NJ: At Northeastern University, my major was in Finance but after taking my first Supply Chain Management class I immediately resonated with it as it was largely about operations and running a manufacturing unit. This course aligned perfectly with my long-term goal of making Javi Home global upon my return to India. My formal education in supply chain management gave me invaluable information on price, quality and delivery – three foundations for building a great business.

What are you currently working on?

NJ: We are working on the upcoming exhibition ‘FIND’ which is being held at Marina Bay in Singapore from 22-24 September. We will showcase some new and exciting products, and it is going to be very different from the trade shows that we have done in the past.
