Aiming for gold

ISSUE: 141

Aashima Rajpal and Chitvan Agarwal combined their contrasting but complementary skill sets to create a vibrant home accessories brand

Is it difficult to balance creativity and commerce?

AR: It’s a struggle we deal with every day. Being a small set up, we usually do almost everything ourselves, right from managing inventory to designing new products.
CA: Coming from different educational backgrounds, our skill sets balance each aspect perfectly. Handling different facets of the business, we manage to maintain equilibrium. Our love for home décor keeps us motivated.

Which materials do you enjoy working with?

CA: We use metal as the primary material in our pieces. The focus is on complementing metal with other materials like wood, glass and marble to craft styles and designs that can gel with all styles of décor — traditional or contemporary. We like juxtaposing finishes and textures, playing with different types, but gold remains our favorite and close to our heart. You will see touches of glamorous gold in most of our pieces. It just fits in everywhere.

What do you see trending in Indian interior design in the next five years?

AR: The world has radically changed since the pandemic and now it’s all about comfort and not trends anymore. With everyone having spent so much time at home, the priorities have seen a significant shift where decorating living spaces are concerned.
CA: Décor that easily blends in all spaces. Now we’ve seen that the home has no zones limited to specific tasks, there will be a growing need for multifunctional pieces. Sustainability, and minimalism with
refreshing and unique design esthetics will gain strength in the next five years.
