Showcased at the Auto Components Expo 2023, the objective of TD223 was to demonstrate Initia Design’s creative capabilities in conceptualising, developing, and realising an all-new electric scooter design. The scope of this project covered the complete development of the product, from initial sketches to a fully functional prototype. The design also aimed at a cohesive integration and demonstration of various two-wheeler components developed independently by the Uno Minda Group companies.
Catering to Convenience
UnoMinda embarked on an ambitious project to address several key challenges in the electric two-wheeler market. One major obstacle was making battery swapping easy and efficient, as the weight of battery packs often makes this operation cumbersome. Additionally, the entire swapping experience needed to be quick and seamless to enhance user convenience. Understanding the aspirations of the Gen Z target audience and integrating various technologies from UnoMinda divisions, such as lighting, switches, seating, and power electronics, were also crucial objectives.
The Pit-Stop Experience
To tackle these challenges, UnoMinda implemented several innovative solutions. The batteries are strategically placed in a low, centralised position, significantly reducing the effort required for swapping and minimising body strain. This positioning allows for a pit-stop-like fast-swapping experience, making it quicker and more exciting than traditional refuelling. UnoMinda crafted a compelling tech story by curating technologies through a meticulously crafted brand strategy.
Electro Aero Design
The design theme for this technology demonstrator is “Electro Aero.” The forward-leaning volume gives the vehicle a unique silhouette and powerful stance, reminiscent of a maxi-scooter’s proportions. The main panels feature a strong winglet theme and sharp surfacing, evoking a modern and technological feel. In contrast, the secondary panels are designed to appear functional yet subdued, balancing the perceived visual mass. The finishing touch includes contrasting accents and intricate technical details that highlight the electric powertrain, enhancing the overall aesthetic and performance.
The project has significantly increased design awareness both within UnoMinda and among its competitors. It has allowed UnoMinda Ltd. to provide an immersive and engaging demonstration of its technologies and products to customers. It has transformed UnoMinda’s brand perception from a Tier-1 component supplier to a “thought-leading” technology company, generating business and sales in the electric two-wheeler domain.
