How does your brand incorporate sustainability?

SM: Sustainability is something that we’re constantly striving for. Whether through our inventory models that focus on minimizing stock or in our processes that focus on more sustainable raw materials, we believe that the environmental sustainability and financial sustainability of a company go hand in hand.

How do you market and distribute your products?

SM: We market our products primarily via Facebook, Instagram, and Google. Instagram, particularly, is a great tool for brand building. Our distribution channels are, of course, our own website, as well as two platforms: Mi Casa Collective, and Tata Cliq Indi Lux.  We also work with interior designers, architects and individual customers offline through our factory showroom in Jaipur or on-site, especially for residential and commercial projects.

What is the story behind Savana Living?

SM: Like all origin stories, Savana Living’s story, too, starts with a fledgling idea: the importance of carrying forward a design journey that began over 30 years ago. I have grown up watching my parents build a furniture export company from scratch, and design was always an integral part of our lives. Professionally though, I did not study design. In fact, I worked as a journalist in Mumbai for several years, and the idea of starting a furniture company never crossed my mind. However, in 2017, things changed. It was suddenly clear to me that the specific skillset in furniture manufacturing that we had developed over decades needed to be brought out into the Indian market. And that is when Savana Living came into being.
