Initially inspired by the streets of Paris, Yadvi Agarwal’s fluid silhouettes continue to reflect the often unseen beauty around her
How did your tryst with fashion begin?
YA: Since an early age all things creative have had a special place in my heart. Growing up around textiles and making decisions about décor, curtains and fabrics for my clothes and home at an early age
kept me pleasantly engaged in all things textile. With a keen interest in design I decided to pursue a Bachelor’s in Fashion Design from Pearl Academy of Fashion, where I was awarded a full merit scholarship through the four years. As I delved more into design, I realized it was indeed my true calling. To get a deeper understanding of textiles I went on to pursue my Master’s in Textile Design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
What is the story behind Yavi?
YA: After completing my Master’s I was placed at Welspun, as the head of Spun, a CSR initiative to empower the Banjara women of Gujarat and create textiles for the American market. However, all my creative needs were still not satisfied and the urge to have my own label kept coaxing me to take a step forward. That was the beginning of Yavi.
Describe the Yavi woman.
YA: The new age independent Indian woman who loves to travel and collect experiences is who a Yavi woman is. She is a conscious and mindful woman who understands the need of the hour is to be sustainable and buys clothes that support timeless slow fashion.
