A journey that started in an entirely different, and possibly less satisfying, the direction has taken Rashi and Rachita Singh to the creation of their dream home in the hills
What drew you to architectural design?
Rachita: Growing up, we were both passionate about design. Our father, Mr. Inder Pal Singh, is an architect and we were always surrounded by design. He raised us with a vision to explore the spectrum of design, teaching us all the technical details and the patience that comes along with it. The love for creating spaces and the structural possibilities of the space never stopped. The old saying indeed hits close to home – like father like daughter! I went on to pursue a Bachelor of Design degree from Apeejay Institute of Design, and worked with an interior design studio. Rashi acquired a Master’s in Marketing from Bradford University, UK and went into banking.
What led you both to start your own practice?
Rashi: Our innate nature being on a more creative side, neither of us could sit behind a desk. Our work didn’t excite us. It was then we decided to start our own venture, combining both our educational backgrounds. Dad became our mentor and pushed us to always be inspired to create something new. We started freelancing, working on farmhouses and retail projects. We’ve journeyed from doing residential projects in Gurgaon to stumbling upon a home in the hills. We’d say it was kind of meant to be.
What are your future career plans?
Rachita: To design more spaces, to gain knowledge in the process of it. To challenge oneself and push oneself to the extreme during the design process and then emerging more insightful. We are super excited and passionate about designing tree houses, and hopefully that is going to be our next project in the hills. Our aim has always been to create spaces that translate into an experience.
